This morning The Pirate & the Squid made a pilgrimage back to Brooklyn to perform for The Infant and Child Learning Center in Brooklyn.
60 kids and 40 kids-at-heart gathered to watch the performance in the colorful playroom, complete with a backdrop of colorful marine animals – a handmade aquarium, if you will.
Associated with Downstate Medical Center, the Infant and Child Learning Center provides a comprehensive service program to children from birth to five years of age. A team of psychologists, therapists, teachers, social workers, and nurses provide services for children who have physical or neurological problems due to premature birth, birth defects, HIV infection, or other disorders.
As always, the staff is so nice and the kids are incredible. I’m not supposed to play favorites, but there was one adorable little girl in the front who, when Lindsay (The Parrot) at one point asks the crowd for a “code word” and she was so insistent that it must be marshmallow. Sometimes the kids forget the code word by the time they need to use it, but not this time!
As we were packing up we were invited to stay for their barbeque. It seemed the performance had sparked a day’s event of family and fun – and we were, of course, delighted to partake.
What a great way to spend a summer Tuesday – with new friends in one of my favorite places in the world: Brooklyn.
